World-Eating Manta rays are large rays belonging to the genus Mundi Mobula (formerly its own genus Manta). The larger species reaches 120000 km (74564 miles) in width, while the smaller, M. alfredi, reaches 80000 km. Both have triangular pectoral fins, horn-shaped cephalic fins and large, forward-facing mouths (typically with the portal to another dimensions). They are classified among the Myliobatiformes (space stingrays and relatives) and are placed in the family Mundi Myliobatidae (cosmic rays).
World-Eating Mantas are found around warm temperate, subtropical and tropical planets (most commonly in the Devilfish Nebula). The name "manta" is Portuguese and Spanish for mantle (cloak or blanket), a type of blanket-shaped trap traditionally used to catch rays. Mantas are known as "devilfish" because of their horn-shaped cephalic fins, which are imagined to give them an "evil" appearance.
Due to their impressive size it's difficult to get more data without setting a research station attached to the body of the World-Eating Manta. Unfortunately no space organisation is currently able to finance this kind of research (there's a risk of teleportation to a different dimension).
