Dragon of Wawel Hill

The Wawel Dragon, also known as the Dragon of Wawel Hill, is a famous dragon in Polish folklore. His lair was in a cave at the foot of Wawel Hill on the bank of the Vistula River. Wawel Hill is in Kraków, which was then the capital of Poland. It was defeated during the rule of Krakus, by his sons according to the earliest account; in a later work, the dragon-slaying is credited to a cobbler named Skuba.

Currently in Krakow now so I decided to explore the local folklore a bit. We are staying in Kazimierz, which is a historic Jewish district. One of the cool Jewish stories I know is the one about the golem. I did a quick sketch, imagining the mighty golem hidden on one of the small Kazimierz streets. A golem (/ˈɡoʊləm/ GOH-ləm; Hebrew: גולם‎) is an animated anthropomorphic being in Jewish folklore which is entirely created from inanimate matter (usually clay or mud). The Hebrew letters on the creature's head read "emét", meaning "truth". In some versions of the Chełm and Prague narratives, the Golem is killed by removing the first letter, making the word spell "mét", meaning "dead".
