Last year I visited Llanberis and old Dolbadarn Castle, the fortification known as a "solitary guardian of Snowdonia’s Llanberis Pass". Occupying a lofty, lonely spot overlooking the waters of Llyn Padarn, native-built Dolbadarn Castle was once a vital link in the defences of the ancient kingdom of Gwynedd.
I was instantly inspired and I imagined, that the castle was in fact a Giant Guardian, ancient creature protecting the Llanberis Pass. The giant was was a symbol of Llywelyn's power and authority. In my painting, you can see him sleeping, in the hidden place, close to the cave full of Welsh treasures.

The whole project took me about 12-16 hours, I pushed myself to spend more time on it, the whole week (even when I thought it's good enough!). Working only on this piece helped me to improve the composition, lighting and the storytelling. I hope you like it!
